Press Release

Subsequent to the opening of the Grand Union Canal in 1820 Robert Browning named this picturesque area - where the Regent’s Canal joins with its Union counterpoint - Little Venice. Ever since this South Media Vail area with its beautiful 17th century white stucco homes has become analogous with London’s prime exclusive residential homes.

It is from within one such home 9 Blomfield Road currently under refurbishment that the fourth instalment of SITESHOW will take place. On Friday 12th June 2009, builders will step aside as the site becomes occupied by more than a dozen exciting new artists transforming the house by installing a variety of media, including installation, photography, film, painting, sculpture and performance.

The construction process will be ‘frozen’ over the weekend, allowing visitors to experience the meeting of two creative processes – the making of a home and the making of an art exhibition – during Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening, in this fascinating transitional space – the antithesis of the ‘white cube’ gallery space.

9 Blomfield Road is currently in the process of been redeveloped by the construction company Strideline Ltd. and it is from within this context that siteshow @ Little Venice intervenes in providing a snapshot - a freeze frame weekend experience - to provide an arresting range of contemporary art from within its setting.

This is the fourth art event supported by Strideline Ltd. The first, in another site in Belgravia, showcased the paintings of Sanja Sakic; the second, in Hammersmith, was a multi-disciplinary event including painting, sculpture and performance. The third, in Victoria had from its inception a motive to challenge and question the nature of a gallery exhibition space.
siteshow @ Little Venice is co-curated by Sanja Sakic, Jung Eun Yoo and John O’Hora.

siteshow @ Little Venice opens at 9 Blomfield Road on Friday 12th June 2009 at 7pm and continues on Saturday 13th June from 12 noon until 9. 30pm.
